The LUKS Gruppe is one of the leading hospital groups in Switzerland. With more than 8,000 employees, it provides coordinated, digitally networked healthcare that is accessible to all, with a strong focus on patients, referrers and customers. The LUKS Group has 950 acute beds and serves a catchment area of around 700,000 inhabitants.
It treats over 48,000 inpatients every year and has around 980,000 outpatient contacts. The clinics and institutes of the LUKS Group offer medical services of the highest quality. The LUKS Group includes the largest center hospital in Switzerland. LUKS was the first Swiss hospital to introduce “EPIC” as a hospital information system and has been digital since 2020.

Background

In the Datacenter & Infrastructure team with eleven system engineers, Heinrich Appert is the technical system manager for IBI-aws and is responsible for various services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services, reporting, scripting, automation and architecture topics at the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS), which has over 8,000 employees.

Goal setting

Our goal was very clear: to send as few messages as possible and as many messages as necessary. We were looking for a simple way to send messages quickly and accurately in a hectic environment.

Solution & implementation

We had a home-made solution, but it only worked suboptimally. Then we were made aware of the IBITECH solution through a recommendation. It quickly became clear that IBI-aws was exactly what we needed.

There were no internal hurdles in the implementation process. The simplicity of the installation and administration of the application was a seamless fit. All in all, the introduction and cooperation with IBITECH was very straightforward and the IBITECH team was very knowledgeable in all areas. As a result, we were quickly able to implement IBI-aws across the board after just a short test phase.

Result

Today, five teams are part of our user information concept, which use IBI-aws independently with prepared messages (templates): IT, HR, PR, Technical Services and SAP. In each case, we have fully achieved our goal: IBI-aws enables us to inform the people affected by an incident quickly and easily in just a few lines. For the most part, our employees take the messages very seriously and respond positively to the new information channel.

Even today, almost fifteen years (!) after the implementation, IBITECH itself is still a reliable partner with very competent employees. It is extraordinary that we even have direct contact with the software development department. This is very rare for a software supplier. As a customer, you and your concerns are taken very seriously: IBITECH is always interested in ensuring that the tool meets customer needs and is constantly developing it further.

We are completely satisfied with the solution. We ourselves could benefit even more from IBI-aws and work even more intensively with the new features and thus generate automated messages from the peripheral systems, for example.
